Keep Santa Fe Beautiful (KSFB) is part of the City of Santa Fe Conservation and Sustainability Division, working to promote environmental education, litter awareness/prevention, and citywide beautification projects.

Our Initiatives

We encourage community participation to help keep Santa Fe clean, green, and beautiful! To get involved with any of our initiatives, please feel free to contact us.

In July 2020, the installation of the Santa Fe entrance sign, located between N. Guadalupe St. and St. Francis Drive, was completed in partnership with the New Mexico Clean and Beautiful program funded by the New Mexico Tourism Department. Current efforts include landscaping around the sign.

The Keep America Beautiful® Great American Cleanup is the nation’s largest community improvement program. Keep Santa Fe Beautiful participates each spring by promoting this annual neighborhood litter cleanup.

Another annual neighborhood litter cleanup, Toss No Mas, happens every fall and makes a visible difference in the appearance of our Santa Fe neighborhoods. Dates for this event coincide with the City’s Solid Waste Management Agency’s Free Landfill Days.

Residents who wish to focus on their own neighborhoods or want to conduct site-specific cleanups are encouraged to coordinate with neighbors and friends to volunteer during these biannual events and take advantage of city-sponsored resources and free disposal days. Volunteers must register in advance to receive supplies including gloves and bags. Cleanup hosts will be required to report on how many bags of litter were collected and how many total hours were worked. This information helps create an overall picture of litter-related activities and supports future efforts.

Those looking to fulfill community service hours can contact Keep Santa Fe Beautiful to coordinate cleanups.

A portion of the City’s medians are maintained by Keep Santa Fe Beautiful. Current median adopters have completed safety and orientation training and adhere to reporting requirements.

In April 2025, hundreds of copies of the book “What a Waste” by Jessica French were donated to local elementary schools by Keep Santa Fe Beautiful. Our team led interactive lessons based on this book in fourth- and fifth-grade classrooms, focusing on sustainability topics such as reducing waste, recycling, and conserving natural resources.

A composting program at the Mary Esther Gonzales Senior Center was introduced in 2019 to reduce food waste going to the landfill. The program is supported by volunteer supervisors. Future expansion to more of the City’s senior centers is planned.

With support from Keep America Beautiful, cigarette litter urns have been installed in high-traffic areas in multiple locations around Santa Fe. These urns help reduce litter and prevent harmful chemicals from entering our waterways.

The Red Caboose, located in Railyard Park, was purchased by Keep Santa Fe Beautiful in 2015. It is accessible on foot during daylight hours via the Acequia Trail along the Santa Fe Railyard Park

Keep Santa Fe Beautiful partners with MASTER’s Program students each semester to maintain and improve public lands and complete beautification projects such as anti-graffiti murals and rain garden installations.

In the spring of 2025, native milkweed was planted in MLK Jr. Park and Calle Alvardo Park. Approximately 75 established milkweed plants were added to each park to aid the migration of Monarch butterflies, which lay eggs on milkweed. Caterpillars feed on milkweed leaves as well. An assortment of nectars for the adult Monarchs were planted to aid their feeding.
